Later, American fashion houses like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren made sportswear a fashion statement with their creations. There are two basic areas in which fashion designs fall today. Individual clients are the target market for haute couture. The ready-to-wear collection falls under another category. The latter is targeted at the general public, while the former is based on specific themes and more for making a fashion statement.

A new breed of designers who redefined conventional ideas first appeared in the middle of the 1990s. They took a fresh approach to fashion and developed their own original ideas.
